Hurtigruten, or was it Hertegruten? Hurtigrutenus?

Hurtigruten's US blog provides an account of all versions of Hurtigruten's brand name that people search for when they try to find Hurtigruten on the Internet. They may have read the name somewhere, or a friend who has travelled with Hurtigruten has referred to it. But when they try to find Hurtigruten on Google, for example, they often don't get the the name right. When you don't know what words Hurtigruten is composed of, it's not always simple for someone who's not Norwegian to remember the word.

Hurtigruten means "the fast route" (Hurtig=fast and ruten=route). You have to remember that when Hurtigruten was established well over hundred years ago, this route along the Norwegian coast actually provided fast transportation of passengers, mail and goods. Nowadays, when compared to for example airline travel, it's not so fast anymore.

And when you pronounce the name, leave out the "g" - Hurti'ruten.

Some of the misspellings are funny, at least for a Norwegian :) I have cut out the list from the blog above:

hertegruten, hurtigruton, hertigruten, hrutegarten, hurdigen norway cruise, hurtegruten, hurtengruten, hurtgruten, hurtig ruten, hurti ruten, hurtigan, hurtigen, hurtigeruten, hurtigren, hurtigrten, hurtigrunten, hurtigrutan, hurtigrute, hurtigrute, hurtigrutenus, hurtigrutin, hurtigrutin fram, hurtigrutten, hurtigtuten opera voyage, hurtigurten, hurtiguta, hurtiguten, hurtihruten, hurtingruten, hurtingrutin, hurtinguten, hurtiruten, hurtrigen, hurtzegrutin cruise line, hutengruten, hutigruten, hutigruten us, hutrigruten, huttigruten, hutygruten, hurdig routen

Norwegian broadcasting company NRK has set aside five days of it's schedule to broadcast live from Hurtigruten's ship MS Nordnorge's voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes

This beautiful journey along Norway's magnificent coastline has already been an experience of a lifetiem for thousands of passengers from around the world.

As the Hurtigruten ships sail north and pass the Arctic Circle, the panorama of the Norwegian coastline is clearly visible even through the night. As you might know, the sun doesn't set during the summer months, and the midnight sun shines almost as bright as the day.

For many, a trip to Norway and travelling with Hurtigruten is a dream. A dream that really should be fulfilled! Until such a realization (and for some days between 16 and 22 June) you can follow Hurtigruten's MS Nordnorge on its journey from Bergen to Kirkenes. Watch in full screen!

Update 22 June: The live broadcast is now over, what a few days it has been! MS Nordnorge has been greeted by cheering people in small and larger communities and towns. NRK's broadcast became a national event, which also received considerable attention abroad! Below you can see some of what you can experience with Hurtigruten.
